“Justice delayed is justice denied” – two county courts at law for Hidalgo County will be created to handle growing number of cases, says Rep. Canales

As Hidalgo County’s population is quickly approaching almost 900,000, according to the most recent estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, with that growth has come to the need for the area’s judicial system to keep up with the increases in criminal and civil cases, according to Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg.

Legislative update on University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and its School of Medicine to be included in “State of the University Address” by President Guy Bailey on Thursday, May 30

Less than a week after the 86th Texas Legislature in Austin finished its 140-day regular session, a legislative update on the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and its School of Medicine is anticipated to be featured in a “State of the University Address” by UTRGV President Guy Bailey on Thursday, May 30, 2019.

Students from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Physician Assistant Studies Program in the College of Health Professions, recently worked on a case study as part of the first Team-Centric Friday event. More than 160 students – nurse practitioner, physician assistant and first-year medical students – collaborated on how to treat a patient with vision problems. The interprofessional education training exercise addressed one of the goals of the medical school and the allied health professions programs at UTRGV: to prepare future healthcare providers to work in an interprofessional team-based setting.
