Funding authorization for the first $24 million of a projected $78 million in upgrades and new construction for sports facilities at the Edinburg campus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is set for action by the UT System Board of Regents during its Wednesday, February 22, 2023, and Thursday, February 23, 2003 meetings in Austin, reports Dr. Luis “Louie” G. Alamia, PT, DPT.

Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 was chosen by Speaker of the House Dave Phelan, R-Beaumont, for a third two-year term as Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation.

In most cases, the figure of speech, “One in a million”, is an exaggeration and not reality when talking about a person, object or action.

But not so for Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez, a Rio Grande City native who with his wife Clare, RN, a retired Registered Nurse, live in McAllen.

The legislative influence of Sen. Juan Hinojosa, D-McAllen, and Sen. Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo/Starr County, will be in full force during the next few months as they play direct roles on the Senate Finance Committee in shaping Texas’ two-year state budget. 

The Edinburg school district’s four state lawmakers – Sen. Juan Hinojosa, Rep. Terry Canales, Rep. R.D. “Bobby” Guerra, and Rep. Óscar Longoria – along with Edinburg school board trustee Dr. Luis “Louie” G. Alamia, PT, DPT – are praising the upcoming construction of the $26 million University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Edinburg CISD Collegiate High School.

Recently retired Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., D-Brownsville, may have seen his last day in office on Monday, January 9, 2023 as the third-longest serving member of the Texas Senate.

Sen. Juan Hinojosa, D-McAllen, and Sen. Morgan LaMantia, D-South Padre Island, will be up for reelection in two years as a result of a required lottery involving all 31 members of the Senate that took place on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Texas Capitol.
