Featured: Eleven students from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley have been selected to the Rio Grande Valley Legislative Internship Program (VLIP) and will spend this spring interning at the State Capitol during the 86th Texas Legislative Session, which begins on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 and lasts 140 days. McAllen’s retail economy generates most sales tax revenue for the year among Valley’s largest cities, reports Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts - Titans of the Texas Legislature

Featured: Antonio and Rebecca Díaz of Edinburg were among thousands of South Texans who witnessed family members and friends receive their university diplomas from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley during graduation ceremonies held on Saturday, December 16, 2018, at the McAllen Convention Center. The previous day, graduation ceremonies also were held on the Student Union Lawn at UTRGV in Brownsville. UTRGV graduated more than 3,100 students during the two days of ceremonies. Since UTRGV opened in 2015, the university has awarded more than 12,800 degrees.

On Wednesday, November 14, 2018, these area leaders participated in the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine’s grand opening of its Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in San Carlos, in Hidalgo County. UTRGV School of Medicine received a five-year, $3.75 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration to develop the three AHECs, which will offer free health care to residents and educational opportunities for students enrolled in UTRGV’s health professions programs.

Mission native Alyssa Guajardo, a UTRGV junior, elected Texas Civic Ambassador for 2018-2019 - Titans of the Texas Legislature

Featured: Mission native and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley junior Alyssa Guajardo has been elected a Texas Civic Ambassador for the 2018-2019 academic school year. Texas Civic Ambassadors are students who represent universities around Texas and share a common goal of increasing civic engagement in their communities. Guajardo is studying exercise science with a concentration in physical therapy and a minor in Spanish and statistics.
