The Office of the Texas Governor on Thursday, October 26, 2023 – in an impressive showing statewide for the Rio Grande Valley – awarded Dr. Lidia Fonseca of McAllen, Christian Torres of Pharr, the Valley Association for Independent Living of McAllen, and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, top honors for their dedication on behalf of Texans with disabilities, Gov. Greg Abbott recently announced.

With 14 state constitutional amendments to face Texas voters later this autumn, Futuro RGV – a group of citizen volunteers who provide information regarding issues and concerns in deep South Texas – will be hosting “Constitutional Amendments Forum 2023” through its Facebook page on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Val LaMantia, owner and managing partner of beverage distribution company L&F Distributors based in McAllen, was recently selected by Gov. Greg Abbott for induction later this fall into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame, in recognition of her business leadership, her service to the McAllen community, and her role as a founding member of the STARS Scholarship Fund, furthering education for nearly 20,000 students in South and West Texas.
